It’s almost vacation time! Well, that is, if you’re a student. Christmas is nearly here and we know a lot of kids looking forward to a break from school.

But what to do with all that extra time? With no routine and lots of free time, those energetic kiddos might just start bouncing off the walls. That, or they may start pacing from room to room looking for something entertaining to do.

That’s when we pull out our 6-Quart All-Clad slow cooker and the Fix-It and Forget-It Kids’ Cookbook. The kids we know love helping out in the kitchen. And they’re downright proud of themselves when they serve Lip-Smacking Lasagna or Crunchy Chicken to their family and friends.

Can you believe it? Christmas is only 26 days away.

Suddenly it’s time to rummage through the attic again and get out the icicle lights and Christmas stockings. We’re also grabbing our slow cooker from the pantry and keeping it on the counter for the entire month of December.

Why? Because our slow cooker is a lifesaver at this time of year. We use it on those busy days when we’re out Christmas shopping with friends, and we use it when we need to make something special for a holiday gathering. Why it’s as necessary to the holiday season as carols, or a decorated tree, or hot chocolate.

So, to celebrate holiday cooking, we’re giving away a 6-quart All-Clad slow cooker to one (1) lucky, random winner.

We consistently use the 6-quart All-Clad Slow Cooker when cooking large cuts of meat or baking breads or cakes for this blog. We’ve discovered that meats, like the pork ribs we used for Give-Me-More Barbecued Ribs, cook evenly without getting too hot or drying out. Plus the bread pan we use as a baking insert to make Carrot Cake or Pumpkin Pie Dessert fits like a charm in this particular slow cooker.

The 3-setting programmable timer on the slow cooker comes in real handy on busy shopping days. We just set the timer to high or low (whatever the recipe calls for) and then program in the cooking time. When the timer beeps, the slow cooker automatically changes to the warm setting. This keeps food nice and hot without overcooking it, so we don’t have to worry about the food burning while we’re out getting that perfect sale item.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and we already wish we had a bigger kitchen. One oven just isn’t big enough when we’re trying to make turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing, green beans, and pie. No matter how often we arrange and rearrange the baking dishes in our oven, there’s not enough room for all the food.

But since remodeling the kitchen isn’t really an option, we’re pulling out our slow cookers—every single one we’ve got. Using our slow cookers will free up the oven a bit and makes it easier for us to get everything finished and on the table at the same time. Now we’re not stressing about the Green Bean Casserole or the Fruity Sweet Potatoes. We can throw all the ingredients into our slow cookers and forget about those parts of the meal until dinner is served.
