When visitors come to Lancaster County, they generally want to eat some good, Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. They are looking for a slow roasted beef with mashed potatoes and cooked carrots, or crispy fried chicken with green beans and buttered noodles.

There is a bread making class this Saturday at The Good Cooking Store. The instructor is a home baker who is amazing at producing wonderful baked goods from scratch. Whenever she teaches a class, we feel empowered to make goodies like pie crusts, cinnamon rolls, bread. You name it and she can teach you how to make it!

Thinking about bread made us remember this recipe that can be made in your slow cooker. It comes out as a thick and hearty bread, perfect for dipping in a soup or simply sliced with some homemade jam.

The quilters are in town!

For the past few years, thousands of quilters trek to Lancaster County in March for the annual American Quilter’s Society Show and Contest.This year the estimated attendance is 17,000 and many of those quilters will journey into our small town to visit the various quilt and fabric stores here. One of those quilt shops, The Old Country Store, is open until midnight tomorrow night to celebrate the quilters’ journeys to Lancaster County.
