We got this question from one of our Facebook fans: “Can I cook frozen meat in my crockpot?? I have read that it is perfectly fine providing there is liquid in it. But then I have also read some cons.
Here is Phyllis’ response:
It’s very tempting to do this. But the food safety experts say it’s a risk you shouldn’t take.
I know, you forgot to thaw the meat, or you’re going to be away longer than the recipe calls for cooking the food. So you’d like to take care of your dinner this way. Just know that it will take that rock-solid chunk of meat too long to reach 145◦-165◦, the temperature at which it’s safe.
Meanwhile, the food you’re hoping to eat and feed to your family (and maybe your friends) is spending too long at an unsafe temperature.
