Fix-It and Forget-It

I Don’t Want to Even Think About Living Without These Gadgets!-GIVEAWAY

  • — 8 Aug, 2013

Slow cookers make sense because they’re just plain-down convenient. I thought of it over and over again as I was working with the recipes for my soon-to-be-published Fix-It and Forget-It NEW Cookbook! . (WHAT?? You haven’t heard!? The new book is full-color and coming October 1!!)

When you make food in a slow cooker, everything is so easy. So quick. So delicious.

But I’ve also been paying attention to those other little tools I use all the time, because they help to make cooking easier and that much more convenient. I get grouchy when I don’t know where they are (like still in the dishwasher or stuck in the wrong drawer).

Here are 3 of my favorite gadgets—and we’re giving them away today if you answer the following question down below.

1. Progressive Citrus Juice and Measure (I call it my “lemon squeezer”). Use this and you’ll have no more seeds in your finished dish. And you’ll measure the lemon juice at the same time as you squeeze the fruit. Why didn’t they think of this before?! I love it for making “Blueberry Crisp,” on page 346 of Fix-It and Forget-It NEW Cookbook!

2. Kyocera Adjustable Ceramic Slicer. Okay, this looks innocent enough—but it is VERY sharp. So treat it with respect. Keep the guard nearby and use it when the potato you’re slicing is down to being only1 inch thick. This is SOOO fast! We have Scalloped Potatoes much oftener ever since I got a mandolin! See my new favorite recipe for “Scalloped Potatoes Supreme,” on page 227 of the brand NEW Cookbook!.

3. The ChopStir. Once you’ve used this, you’ll always want it when you’re browning ground beef or sausage. It breaks up those maddening clumps of meat like a dream. I whip it out when everybody begs for “Yummy Mexican Lasagna.” You’ll find that recipe on page 156 of the Fix-It and Forget-It NEW Cookbook!.

I hope you all win these wonderful tools! They make me so much happier in the kitchen.

And, hey you can place your pre-order for Fix-It and Forget-It NEW Cookbook! right now! Just click the following link ( Fix-It and Forget-It New Cookbook ) and you’ll be among the first to get copies as soon as the pages are dry!

(The manufacturers of these products do not know that we’re giving these items away.)

My favorite “gadget” would be my electric can opener. I don’t use much from a can but when I do, my arthritic hands don’t do well with the little turn the handle can openers.
I also Love crock pot cooking. I am a newbie at it but have loved most of the things I’ve made. Especially when its pork chops and gravy.

My favorite is an all-silicone double-ended spatula that my husband and I found several years ago. It is about 2″ wide on one end and just over an inch on the other. We use it to scramble eggs–doesn’t scratch the non-stick and really does a good job stirring the eggs. My other fave is my chop&stir–love it when browning ground meats.
I would love that mandolin as we have fresh roasted veggies a lot and that would be great for squash! Also, I like to add lemon or lime juice to my water and that reamer looks like it would be great for that.

Hah! I thought it was a tenderizing mallet. Was thinking “why do you need that for slow cooking?” 😀

My favorite unusual kitchen gadget is a mandoline slicer. Much the same as Kyocera (which I also have), but is larger and has more blade options.

I love my chop and stir as well! I also love my Pampered Chef adjustable measuring spoon!!! 1 utensil for multiple measuring in recipes from 1 tsp to 1 tbl. I also love my Black and Decker mini-chop-it does 1 whole pepper or onion or mushrooms – usually just enough for a recipe – a small powerhouse!

This summer season with garden produce, I have been using my apple corer on cukes and squash that are just maybe a little larger than normal due to a lot of rain and not being able to get in the garden to pick them. This little gadget removes those seeds from slices and leave an even edge.
