Top 4 Hot Drink Recipes
Why wait until fall or winter to have your favorite hot beverage? Try

A friend was recently telling us a story of how she was traveling to a potluck at church and was transporting a delicious artichoke dip in her slow cooker. Her husband took a corner a little too sharply and managed to dump the entire artichoke dip onto the floor of their car. Needless to say, after smelling the aroma of artichoke dip every morning on the way to work for more than a week, she decided to buy a Stay or Go slow cooker with locking handles.
Because we have so many loyal fans that tell us of times when they take a Fix It and Forget It recipe to an event or party, we would like to give away a Hamilton Beach 6 qt. Stay or Go slow cooker to hopefully prevent an unfortunate event from happening to someone else. We will also include a copy of the Fix It and Forget It cookbook to help you plan for the next time you take your slow cooker out for a drive.
The 6-quart Hamilton Beach Stay or Go has settings for High, Low, and Warm so you can make your favorite meal ahead of time and keep it warm until it’s time to eat. The slow cooker crock is also dishwasher safe. The lid has locking latches to keep the lid securely in place while traveling to your potluck. But perhaps one of our favorite features of this slow cooker is that there’s a place on the handle of the lid to store a spoon! Now you won’t forget your favorite serving spoon when you’re heading out the door.
(Hamilton Beach doesn’t know that we’re giving away this slow cooker.)

Oh yeah! I had a whole crock pot of baked beans tip over and spill in the floor board of my truck on the way to a work pot luck luncheon!
i was on my way to a reception of a family friend that passed. On the way the crock sloshed some onto the floor mat. When I was walking up to the house, I got unbalanced and it sloshed all over me. I was embarrassed, upset and I got burned. I had to turn around (not going inside) went home and cried while changing my clothes.. While I was on my way back to the reception, I for no reason started laughing. It was my friend letting me know we can still laugh together.. The reception went really good. I kept thinking of him laughing with me over the craziest things we did together.
Ugh! I made green bean Casserole in the crock pot and it tipped inside the insulated bag I put it in. It wasn’t pretty and I couldn’t get it all out. Had to trash the bag
I was going to a potluck dinner. I had put a crockpot of beans in the back of my SUV. On the way someone pulled out in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes. All the juice and about 1/2 the beans ended up spilling. It was a huge mess.
I haven’t had a mishap.
While traveling to a party with “meatballs in a crock” the friend driving erratically dumped half on the back seat mat. We tried salvaging the dish and scooped up at many meatballs as we could. Luckily, we were late arriving and everyone there had just enough to where it didn’t matter!
One day I made what promised to be a great recipe in the slow-cooker. I got out my slow- cooker, put it on the counter and proceeded to put in chicken and vegetables and the rest of my ingredients. I turned on the slow-cooker and left. When I got back home, I expected delicious smells to hit my nose the moment I walked in the door, but I smelled nothing. I went to the slow-cooker and looked in…it was all still raw. I checked to make sure I had turned it on…yes it was set to “low”. I told my husband that I thought the slow-cooker was broken and he went and looked at it and confirmed that it had been turned on…and then we both realized what the problem might be…sure enough, I did everything right, but I forgot to plug the slow-cooker in! I had to throw out dinner and start something on the stove!
Oh the stories I could tell…the most memorable is probably this one:
I was borrowing my mother’s car for the weekend because mine was in the shop. She has a gold car with light colored carpet in it. I was taking my chili to a church function and the church is 30 minutes away. All was going great until I was about 5 minutes from the church. I hit a bump and ended up with chili ALL OVER the floor of my mother’s car (which by the way was only 2 weeks in her ownership)…Let me tell you that the chili stain is STILL there 5 years later and when she hears of me taking my crock somewhere she never fails to tease me about “ruining” her new car.
I was taking a crockpot to work at 530 am and it was full of vegatable soup it slowly seeped out over the edge. My truck looked like someone vomited on my floor. I wish it had some kind of rubber seal to lock the juice in while traveling. I love using my crockpot in so many ways.
Was carrying my 5 qt down my basement steps for a party in our rec room and my handle broke about halfway down the steps, caught it before my pulled pork was all over my steps.
Had a meal spill over the edges because the crockpot was so full. Every stop, every acceleration, spilled more and more from the crockpot! That was one of my first crockpot flubs. NOW I know better! If there’s too much, I spoon out some into an extra dish
No mishaps but would sure like to win!
No, not yet.
I made a slow cooker full of baked beans once to take to work. I am pretty sure that 7:00 am is not the time to be transporting your famous baked beans in the front floorboard! They went everywhere!!! What a mess to clean up!!!
I’ve not had any mishaps, but some close calls. I usually take some of the contents out so the pot isn’t so full and take the extra in a separate container.
I always put foil between the pot and the top and put the whole thing in a box. Any mess that does occur stays in the box.
I made bbq pulled pork in my crockpot for a Teacher Appreciation luncheon at my boys’ school. I was in such a hurry that when carrying the crockpot out to the car, my sleeve got caught on the handle of the door and my grip on the crockpot slipped. The crockpot came crashing to the ground and I had bbq pork all over my front porch. Needlesstosay, we ended up ordering pizza for the teachers and I had to go out and buy a new crockpot…can’t live without one!!
I can not say that I have had any mishaps..my old cooker has been many miles with me…it is old, but still loved..LOL….I will get another one one day..but until then..it is still traveling with me on the back seat floor on newpaper..or in a box..LOL…Love your recipes for my slow cooker…thank you…
thankfully no mishaps, I usually bring the fixings in tupperware and put it together on arrival
I HAD a locking lid crockpot I made chili for a pot luck dinner at church and you guessed it, someone TOOK IT FROM THE CHURCH! No one has ever owned up to it either! Would LOVE to have another one I miss it sooooooo much! It might never leave the house again! LOL Guess someone needed it more than me and my family.
made sweet-n-sour meatballs and spaghetti had to stop suddenly for an ambulance coming out of a side street almost hit me. I had crock pots on the back seat in boxes I ended up going to the party wearing my sweet-n-sour meatballs.
I made beef stew and had a similar incident, have an old crock pot and was taking beef stew to a sick friend and it spilled all ove the back of the van….what a mess. Would truly be blessed to win a new one!!!
Yes, once I started preparations a little too late, so to hasten the process I took the crock out of the crockpot, put it in the microwave. That didn’t work out too well. The crock broke into about four pieces. Mess everywhere!!! Fortunately, I had more than one crockpot… learned a lesson though!
I’ve had a lot of mishaps when traveling with my crock pots over the years. The worse was while on the road pulling our pop up the axle broke and went up through the campers floor board and pierced my crock pot.
I’ve broken the lids on two different pots (the above mentioned one was one of them).
I’ve plugged my crock pot in inside my camper and left for 8 hours only to come back to find out the battery my camper was using for power died shortly after we left (no dinner).
I’ve dropped more then one crock trying to empty them of their food.
I have had many crockpots over the years and none of them where the lock down traveling kind. So after many mishaps, my husband has made me different size tiedowns out of bunggy cords, new elastic headbands anything he could think of to stop the lids from coming off in transit. He said no more stinky seats or floor mats for him to try and get clean.
No I haven’t… I guess I am lucky!
I once made a delicious pot of baked beans. I placed the crock inside a box, thank goodness, as I was traveling to a family gathering. When I reached there, much of the goodness was on the inside of the box. I can laugh about it now, but I didn’t then.
my mishap was with chili… set the crock pot in a box lid in case there was any bumps that caused some of it to leak out… however, never thought about the box lid sliding when I had to apply the breaks suddenly. The box lid slide, with this extra momentum the crock pot had no problem tipping over and spilling the contents.
Meal at son’s huse went fine – had carried the crockpot on my lap all the way there. On the way home, put empty crockpot in a cardboard box in the back of the van. Hubs almost missed a turn and slammed on the brakes, box sllid and the crockpot cover went flying and broke in 2. Did I mention this was a 1972 crockpot? Can’t get a replacement cover too easily – took me over a year of hunting. A locking cover sure would be the ticket! Oh, and since then, I carry the EMPTY crockpot on my lap, too!
I made chili for a campout and put it in my slow cooker. I put it in the refrigerator of our camper. When we got to our destination, I opened the frig and the lid fell onto the floor and broke. Thank goodness the chili didn’t!
Oh my goodness! I would love to win this! I am always taking food here and there in my slow cooker for pot luck or church dinners and I can’t even count how many times I’ve spilled hot food on myself or in the floor of my car! Being a klutz doesn’t help either LOL
I made mac and cheese for a potluck at church after the service one Sunday. I worked out the timing and got there early enough to throw it together and turn it on before the service with enough time for it to be ready just as the potluck would start. I come into the kitchen after the service to find clumpy cheese and half done macaroni. Apparently I chose the one outlet in the kitchen that turns off and on at will
A crockpot full of chili…a hidden pothole…and the results were aromatic…and messy!
Like so many others, my slow cooker filled with yummy goodness slid across the back of my Jeep when I had to take a sharp corner. It’s not so yummy smeared all over the place.
I’ve heeded the warnings, and mishaps of others and take the greatest care with my crock pots in transient! A box holds it on the floor of the car-
Yes, I had a mishap. A few years ago, I was helping out a friend who has a craft store. She was having a “shop hop” event and decided we could make a little extra money selling food to the people who were participating. We decided to make “walking tacos”. If you don’t know what that is, you take a single-sized bag of corn chips and then add your favorite taco toppings: taco meat, shredded lettuce, salsa, onions, cheese, etc. I made a large batch of taco meat in my slow cooker and put it in the front passenger-side floor of my car. While driving, the cooker slid around a bit and chili splashed all over the carpet of my car. It wasn’t a big spill, but it was annoying.
I’d love to win this cooker!
Chili in my floorboard, yum!!
the first spill was with my first 4 quart back in “82 i believe. the crock pot was full of chili and sitting in the floor of the truck as we were going to a church dinner. we turned onto the road to the church and the chili splashed out on my feet. everyone loved what was left in the pot. lol, every time i travel with my crock pot it spills. I have a box and towels that i pack them in to catch the mess. the last crock i bought has 3 1 1/2 quart crocks in it. i have 2 -4 quart crock pots, and a 6 quart. love them all.
i had a baby shower for my daughter and put my slow cooker with my baked beans in the back of my blazer, and when i got to the hall come to find out that the slow cooker tiped over and i had beans all over the back.i was so upset i started to cry because my daughter just loves them and she aslked me to make them and i told her i had to much to do.
Close, but it was catch in the nick of time!
Have always been scared to travel with my slow cooker. Locking one would be awesome!
Lets just say that chicken tortilla soup, sudden stopping and air vents do not mix! No matter what type of air flow in the car (heat or A/C) I could always smell cumin, garlic and tomatoes! I have not transported a crock pot since, too “chicken!” But a crock made for travel would be awesome!
Crockpot full of chili turned over the back of my van. Not only did I smell chili forever but also a huge red stain!
I’ve always been too scared to travel with a full crock pot. This locking one would be awesome!
I learned to put my slow cooker into a plastic storage container, after I had a 9″X13″ cake dish full to the top with black berry cobbler and my husband took a corner too fast and a quarter of it ended up on the carpet in the trunk of our new car!
No mishaps, just would love to win a new crockpot. Been on the lookout for one since before Christmas. Also Hello to you, have a great day.
put frozen chicken breast in and the crockpot split in half..
I’ve never had any complete spills during transport, but have had a few unfortunate sloshes – locking handles would be great!
Having a locking slow cooker surely would have saved many a mishap for me. I have gotten into the habit of putting my slow cooker in a cardboard box and then I try to tie down the lid.
Spilled taco soup after slamming on breaks to avoid hitting a deer!
