Top 4 Mexican-inspired Recipes
In the mood for some Mexican-inspired dishes? Try these wonderful slow cooker favorites!

A friend was recently telling us a story of how she was traveling to a potluck at church and was transporting a delicious artichoke dip in her slow cooker. Her husband took a corner a little too sharply and managed to dump the entire artichoke dip onto the floor of their car. Needless to say, after smelling the aroma of artichoke dip every morning on the way to work for more than a week, she decided to buy a Stay or Go slow cooker with locking handles.
Because we have so many loyal fans that tell us of times when they take a Fix It and Forget It recipe to an event or party, we would like to give away a Hamilton Beach 6 qt. Stay or Go slow cooker to hopefully prevent an unfortunate event from happening to someone else. We will also include a copy of the Fix It and Forget It cookbook to help you plan for the next time you take your slow cooker out for a drive.
The 6-quart Hamilton Beach Stay or Go has settings for High, Low, and Warm so you can make your favorite meal ahead of time and keep it warm until it’s time to eat. The slow cooker crock is also dishwasher safe. The lid has locking latches to keep the lid securely in place while traveling to your potluck. But perhaps one of our favorite features of this slow cooker is that there’s a place on the handle of the lid to store a spoon! Now you won’t forget your favorite serving spoon when you’re heading out the door.
(Hamilton Beach doesn’t know that we’re giving away this slow cooker.)

We were transporting chili in a crockpot and it spilled on the console in our Expedition. YUCK! I would love one with locks.
I made hot chocolate for a party once…stopped suddenly for a car pulling out in front of me. My car smelled like milk and hot chocolate for weeks.
> Actually I’m a minister and just two days ago I was taking a pot of Chicken Stew to a family that had lost a loved one. The person who helped me get my stuff in the car set the stew on the seat instead of in the floor. I was starving and I kept thinking, why is the smell of the stew so strong it’s making me hungry. The reason it was so strong was because it was all over the seat. When I got home I had to grab the shout and start scrubbing. I’m thankful for the other crock pot I have that is more travel friendly.
> I would just love a crock pot that made it easier to share good food with good friends. I spilled about everything there is to spill trying to take
different recipes to get togethers. I have tryed all kinds of different ways to transport food…like in boxes, or wrapped in towels. Even in special dishes with lids that you transport in a insulated holder then when you get there…the lid has poped and all the food is spilled inside.
Once I was taking some french onion soup in a crock pot to a party ….it spilled all over the inside of my minivan! The van smelled like onions for a month!
Forgot to press the on button for a crock pot full of pork chops and sauerkraut!
HI
My crock has shattered before.
I did have mishap. Baked beans make a real mess in the back of your Jeep!
Oh my! I often take soup to potlucks and it always fills my car with a wonderful aromma. One trip it was particularly powerful. When I reached my destination, (up a steep hill) I found half of the contents on the floor of my car! Even after I cleaned the floormats, the aromma lasted over a week! lol
Let’s just say electricity plays a major role in the use of a slow cooker. No electricity=DISASTER!!! Enough said!
Slow-cooked pinto beans are just the right complement to some spicy barbeque! Well, I made a big cookerful of beans to take to a barbeque for a college group I advise. I carefully placed the slow cooker in the back of the staion wagon and strapped it in. Unfortunately, someone pulled out in front of me and I slammed on the brakes!
Yep. You guessed it. The back seat folder down and the cooker spilled its goods between the back seat and the back of the wagon. I cleaned up as best I could, but for years, I kept finding petrified pintos in that car. I often wonder if the person who bought it had the same luck!
I had a crock full of meatballs in the back seat, took a sharp turn and meatballs went wverywhere
Would love to win this!
Was cooking beans and the lid blew off in the middle of the night.
Thank goodness not a bad mess from it!! But I did spill a little of my corn chowder
Thanks for doing these!!!
I once made something for a pot luck and way there, it tipped over and spilled all over my vehicle. What a mess.
Then a friend of mine rolled his vehicle and the crockpot lid hit him the head. He was okay, but he never did find the lid. Only good thing was that this after the pot luck.
While taking soup to a sick friend, the lid opened and soup went everywhere. lol
made chili beans, set crockpot, without a locking lid, on rear floorboard of car & by the time I got to my destination my carpet was a different color, ugh. Hey, but it smelled yummy…..lol
I turned a corner and had baked beans that ended up all over the floor of my car. Baked with molasses and honey too.
I was taking my slow cooker full of chili to a work picnic, I was using my mom’s older slow cooker with a heavy glass lid. Not sure what exactly happened, but by the time I got to the picnic the lid was in 50 pieces and inside the slow cooker. Good thing there was plenty of other food to eat.
love all the make life easy SLOW COOKING ideas
thanks for sharing
My sister make beans & put them in my truck with a bunch of presents for a party we were going to & when we got there I had beans all over my trunk & they were on the preswents too. What a mess & I smelled beans for months every time I got in my car.
My friend’s birthday cake slid from the car seat to the floor at a sudden stop and we had to try to salvage it for the party.
Returning home from church with a half full crock pot of potato soup, we stopped at a stop light and I heard a thunk. Immediately I remembered the
crock pot in the back of the van. I told my husband to stop as soon as possible but the damage was done. Soup dumped over and down into holes where the seats are fastened. Needless to say, I got tired of smelling potato and celery and wondered what summer heat would do to the smell. Be nice to have a lock down crock pot.
Had sweet sour kielbasa all over my car. Got so sick of duct taping the lid on I bought one that locks
I made baked beans and I asked my husband to set them in the floor but he never listens!!!

He turned the corner too fast and ‘BAM’ right in the floor–baked beans for 25 people!!! It was so funny!!
He dropped me off (with the other things I made and went straight to a car wash!!!).
Our car smelled great for a month but it sure did make me hungry everytime we went for a ride!!!
I <3 baked beans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes – be very cautious when making sweet & sour meatballs and transporting them in your jeep…
win !!!
Some times I misjudge how much a roast will shrink and had to scramble to make more meat to serve.
After several spills, I have learned to put my crock pot in a cooler to carry it to a potluck….no more spills, or at least it is contained to the cooler and not all over the back of my minivan!
I had chili spill in my lap on the way to my mother-in-laws house
It seems like soup is the one thing that isn’t easily tranportable. I was planning a very special anniversary party for my Parents 25th and had made a big batch of sweedish meatballs. I did everything I could think of to transport it in my (very old but good) crock pot….Putting it in a box, wrapped in a towel and made sure it was a couple inches from the top. You would think that this was enough to not lose it all over the back of my newer vehicle. Not to mention, it was mostly highway traveling, no problem. Well when I got there….. yup, you guessed it….ALL over the place. So not only did I have a mess to clean up, I had to scramble in order to make them more like sweedish meatballs again and not just meatballs with no sauce.
I would absolutly love one with a locking top. Thanks
My son who has aspergers decided to try out a new recipe he learned in Home economics class to take to great grandma’s house for christmas (Cheese Potato Soup). He worked so hard on it, he allowed me a little taste test and it was delicious. We loaded up the slow cooker onto the floor of the back seat of our car, and got ready to head out. My son had also just gotten his driver’s license, and I decided to let him drive us to grandma’s house as well. We made it exactly 2 miles from home, he took a corner to quickly, and I ended up cleaning cheese potato soup out of the back seat for a couple of hours when we got home from grandmas house. It had sloshed everywhere! He was so very upset with himself, but luckily, enough had remained in the crockpot for great grandma to get a sample of the delicious cheesy potato soup he had made.
I have not. But still would love to win. I use my old crockpot 3 or 4 times a week.
Hi! Ive never had an incedent happen cause im to afraid of it happening so i always have to transfer dish to another closeabel lid container. Its a pain too at times when you want your food to stay warm/hot and only have to microwave option to warm it up with.
I made a pasta dish for a pot luck! Guess what! The noodles overcooked and you could not tell what kind of noodles we should have!!!! Kinda not looking good for the cook…..;-(! And to late to bring something else..
I once spilled my homemade spaghetti sauce all over the front seat of my car while going to pot luck dinner with relatives. Very embarrassing, and very hard ton clean up!!! Wish I had had a lock on the pot..
I was making ribs for a get together and frogot to put the lid on the crock pot. Did’nt find out until 6 hours later and the ribs never cooked
Bean dip spilled out in the truck of my car . A horrible bean and cheese mess. : )
I had homemade honey baked beans with a lid secured with a perfectly stable rubber band in a box in my trunk. I had to hit the breaks and the crock pot flew into the back of the seats with a perfect explosion of honey baked madness in the trunk of the car I just purchased brand new 2 months prior! Oh what we do for family gatherings – LOL!
Oh yes, we made maple syrup and kielbasa and it spilled over in the vehicle while we traveling to the event. It was a sticky mess and smelled like maple syrup for quite a while.
My mother and friends were making food for my bridal shower party. Several crock pots of varying sizes were being used and transported. My mother had her favorite 4 “quarter” in the back of my to-be mother-in-law’s van. She had trussed it up like a Thanksgiving turkey all taped up and surrounded by towels in a box for extra safety. My sister picked up the box to carry into the place we rented for the party. The bottom came out of the box and the beloved crock pot went crashing down to the ground. Luckily, the taped up lid held and my mother’s famous BBQ meatballs were spared. The fall did break off a handle and one of the feet. I’ll be looking for this new crock pot in the stores!!! Now when I transport something…I take the crock pot separate from my dish then cook or warm at where I’m going LOL.
I took my crockpot to a horse club dinner and the crockpot got lost at the cleanup. Never to be found. in need of a new one. thanks.
About the only thing so far (knock on wood) is that I was making scalloped potatoes to bring to my neighbor’s house, who invited me over for dinner, but I misjudged timing in the crock pot and they weren’t ready in time… white rice it was for the side instead.
I have had a few minor spills….no big deal. My big one was luckily contained, as I had set the cooker into a box and wrapped dishtowels around it to keep it warm. At some point, unknown as to where– the gravy sloshed out. Amost half was lost, but thankfully soaked into the towels and stayed in the box. After that I began tying the top down! Would love to win this cooker…mine is dying.
I made sausage and peppers for a family get together. Needless to say one turn a little too quickly and my car smelled like sausage and peppers for months…ugh! A crockpot with a locking lid would have been great.
Yes! Sadly I ended up with beef stew all over the floor of my van when the car in front of me stopped short. I didn’t have a locking lid so the waves created wete enough to spill out of the crock!
I’m glad to say I have never had a crock pot mess in the car. I love how they have the ones that prevent that now. Great idea.
Thankfully, my crock pot has a locking lid. No messes for me! (so far)
I had to travel just a couple miles to deliver a full crock pot of my wonderful chili to my daughters school to sell at the concession stand. When I arrived and opened my trunk my heart sunk to find the top had slid sideways into the pot of chili which caused some of it to spill out in the trunk. It was such a mess. I never have gotten all of the stain out. I really, really need to get a lock-top crock pot!
Actually I love my old dinosaur crock pot , Missing a leg, no locks…. (hamilton beach)… My mom bought me a new one (no locks)… and I gave it to my brother because I was sooo used to using my old one!! (0;
Have never had a mishap, but some near disasters. Would love to have this so as not to find out!! lol
