You can call it Sloppy Joe, or you can call it Barbecued Spoonburgers. Just don’t call us late for dinner when this is on the menu!

This is real barbecued beef from scratch. The prep is easy, and the results are delicious.

We give you a range of cooking times, so this is also a versatile recipe. Serve it on rolls at your Super Bowl party, or simmer all day for a handy family meal.

Makes 8-10 servings
Prep. Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 3-8 hours
Ideal slow-cooker size: 4-qt.

1 ½ lbs. ground beef
2 Tbsp. oil
½ cup chopped onions
½ cup diced celery
Half a green pepper, chopped
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
½ cup ketchup
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tsp. salt
¾ cup water
1/8 tsp. pepper
½ tsp. paprika
6-oz. can tomato paste
2 Tbsp. vinegar
2 tsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. dry mustard

1. Brown beef in oil in saucepan. Drain.
2. Combine all ingredients in slow cooker.
3. Cover. Cook on Low 6-8 hours, or on High 3-4 hours.
