After the field corn is harvested, the stalks and leaves are chopped and baled. The resulting corn fodder will provide bedding, and possibly additional nourishment, for livestock this winter.

    When I was a child, we used to call these huge bales PODS, like as in alien pods. My father got the biggest kick out of that.
