“5 Days To Go!” Giveaway

slow cooker 1

Breast Cancer Awareness Month starts in just 5 days, and this year we have a special reason to be excited about that.

October 1 also marks the date when the Fix-It and Forget-It Pink Cookbook will be on sale everywhere in both print and e-formats. If you can’t wait until October 1, and want to buy your copy right now, click here. Remember, a minimum of one dollar for every copy sold will be donated by the publisher to The Avon Foundation for Women Breast Cancer Crusade.

We want to include you in the excitement by giving away one of our favorite slow cookers. The All-Clad 6.5-quart programmable slow cooker features High and Low settings, and automatically switches to Keep Warm when time elapses. That means dinner is ready when you are. The removable black ceramic insert provides gentle uniform heat to create richly flavored soups, stews, casseroles, and braised meats. Both the insert and the tempered glass lid are dishwasher-safe.

(All-Clad doesn’t know that we’re giving away this slow cooker.)

When I was sick and spent 4 months in the hospital, my mom brought me dinner every night! I mean really, who could get well on hospital food for that long? Those were the best meals I can every remember because she did it not out of need, but because she loves me!

My two year old cousin is battling a tumor in her stomach. She just finished her last round of chemo before she has a stem cell surgery. I know she’ll be home for a few days before going back to the hospital and she really likes my beef stew so being that she is now just eating for the first time in days I think I’ll make her some and take it to her since she won’t be getting out much

I almost always try to make a meal for the new mommies in our church.. Its usually something different each time. And I try my best to stay away from pasta dishes since everyone brings that. One of my favorites is a chicken casserole I make with curry rice french green beans cream of mushroom soup, sour cream sliced water chestnuts and durkees onion rings. its all put together in disposable casserole or in my crockpot and I just send some Hot rolls and cranberry sauce. Its always a hit!!!

While I was sick had two close friends bring over a Hot Chicken Cassarole, Saled and Lemon bars. That was so thoughtful of them and it was enough for 2 meals.

Chicken soup and dumplings is usually the go to dish. Dumplings don’t get soggy as quickly as noodles do….especially over time.

My favorite meal received came when my husband was deployed for several years. A friend knew that I was having a hard time and brought a meal, complete with salad, bread, main dish, vegetable, dessert and flowers. It was so kind and thoughtful right down to the center piece! I’ve tried to “Pay it Forward” often since then!

When my friend was diagnosed with a brain tumor the size of a cantaloupe I was devastated… Thankfully it came back as being benign. However the surgery left her with seizures quite often and for the first few months she could not be left alone. I signed up to be with her on one of those days knowing that they we’re pretty much living off of takeout at that point. I brought my crockpot over and within two hours the whole house smelled deliciously yummy and I was able to spend time with her and play with her son while she napped. My crockpot saved the day because I was able to “fix it and forget it”.

I bought a small crock-pot and made a small roasting chicken along with potatoes & carrots. I also added a loaf of homemade bread and a homemade cherry pie. I took it to an older lady’s house and paid her a visit. We talked while quilting. She loved that she received a new crock-pot and dinner:) It gives you a warm feeling to help someone.

I like to make breakfast burritos for those in need because most people bring dinner and totally forget about breakfast items.

I LOVE my slow cooker and use it often. Recently, a fellow Girl Scout leader was diagnosed with ALS. Her time is heartbreakingly short, her husband is doing everything, her daughter is only 11 years old and there are days that Bill is just too worn down to cook. If I were to win this, I would give it to them in the hopes it could make life easier. In the mean time, all us leaders have brought them casseroles and other ready foods to ease the burden.

I love to bring my friends a nice crockpot full of tortelini soup. We tell the kids it is turtle soup. It stays hot, left overs freeze well. It is a clear broth for the most part so if you have a sick tummy it can be nice and light!

I take care of my 87 year old mother. I do 95% of the cooking. Form time to time if she is able she will cook. Some things she just does better. We cook a lot in our crock. It makes things simple and easier to clean up.

My daughter was having another bout with kidney stones, so I cooked up a chicken dish she’s always loved as a child. A Chicken Stroganoff with sour cream, garlic, cream of checken soup and chicken thighs all melded together in a crock pot. Made her smile and feel a bit better.

When I have a sick friend or family member I make them homemade chicken noodle soup. I cook a whole chicken in my crockpot then make the soup from the broth and the chicken. My friends say it is the best chicken soup they have ever had. My secret??? Add some pinot grigio and basil to the soup.

My dad had his bladder removed last year at Cleveland Clinic so the day he was to come home I had the crock pot ready to go. It was a chicken/spaghetti recipe. Mom and Dad were so relieved that dinner was done for them when they got home after driving 4 hours. I convinced Mom that it is ok to have a crock pot on during the day if you’re not home. She is now using hers more. Thank you for the chance to win!
